Jack Kent's Valentine Sticker Book

Jack Kent's Valentine Sticker Book
Jack Kent ~ Scholastic, 1982

I was gonna save this until tomorrow, but seeing as Friday is the day when few people visit me here, and the holiday is this weekend, I thought I'd spread some Valentine cheer right now. (Plus, I ordered this online last week, and it just came in today with all the stickers intact!) All I can say is WOW. I wish publishers would put things like this out now. Mo Willems Valentines... how cool would that be? I'm one of those crafty snobs who encourages her child to hand-make his own, but for the parents out there who are short on time, wouldn't it be nice to have a literary alternative? Just this morning at the grocery store I watched a mother agonizing on the seasonal aisle... High School Musical or Hannah Montana? That seems to me a decision no parent should ever be forced to make.

This book includes 22 valentines and a couple of pages full of adorable gum-backed stickers. These are too fun to sit around in pristine condition however, so come 4 pm this afternoon, I'll be letting my nearly five-year-old son take his safety scissors to these bad boys and scribble Valentines to every stuffed animal in the house. I just hope I get the one with the egg. A gal can dream, can't she?

I wish I had these to give out! I took went in search of V-day cards for friends this year, and was in agony over the choices.

How sweet! Those stickers look so familiar. It makes me wonder if I had these when I was a girl- the date is about right. What a fun blast form the past- thank you...and Happy Valentine's Day!

Awes....*ahem*

I couldn't bring myself to letting my son cut up "my" copy of this or of my "Love You to Pieces" Valentines book (Mercer Mayer's Critters of the Night).

I love your literary valentines idea. The trash available out there makes me crazy! This one looks fabulous.

vintage children's books will always my favorite. wonderful to find this blog! and these Valentines are definitely more interesting than, say....Edward Cullen valentines. *sigh* how romantic..

I wonder though, if I was a guy who got an Edward Cullen Valentine from a girl, it would make me feel really unhot... HA! I guess those are only good for girl to girl valentines!

Lorax valentines are what my son gave out today. Made from recycled material, and the valentines double as bookmarks... so they might not get thrown out. Plus they have great environmental messages on them (that parents might read).
