Though I must say that these are not ink sketches as everyone is saying. Wanda Gag is know as a print maker. So she most likely spent a ton of time scratching the little details in a plate or wood block.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-938617987945183593.post-65880290778258036422009-07-15T11:48:49.628-05:002009-07-15T11:48:49.628-05:00Another Snow White version with the "iron sho...Another Snow White version with the "iron shoes heated in the fire" part is the one illustrated by Nancy Ekholm Burkert with anatomical and historical accuracy. Librarians started pushing it like mad because they already didn't like the Disneyfication of the story. I want to find this Snow White version. Your description (and commentary) is outstanding and I'm itching to search out a copy.

Have you heard of Marie Hall Ets? I often think of her in the same moment as Gag. I'm always pleasantly surprised that her simple drawings and narrative capture the interests of my 21st century tykes.Cissyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00632702744916866338noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-938617987945183593.post-869334295914084272009-06-04T23:09:57.012-05:002009-06-04T23:09:57.012-05:00Such a fascinating post!
