Great Holiday Give Day Four: Something for Christmas

Originally published in 1958 by Harper & Row, Something for Christmas is the story of a little mouse’s search for a very special gift for a very special person. Small and sweet and a perfect stocking stuffer for you or some wee one you love. The New York Review Children's Collection sent me this impeccable reprint, and really no other publisher does more to bring forgotten classics back into the fold. The editors there are miracle workers finessing literary Lazaruses back from the dead on a daily basis. I have so much respect for what they do.

All you have to do to be entered to win this brand new reprint of Something for Christmas is comment on this post by 11:59 PM Sunday, December 4. A winner will be selected at random and announced (along with all the other winners from the week) on Monday, December 5.

The Great Holiday Give lasts all week, so be sure and check back each day to find out about a new vintage reprint and enter to win a different book. And if you missed the past three days, throw your hat in the ring now...

Day One: Christmas Eve at the Mellops by Tomi Ungerer
Day Two: Professor Wormbog in the Search for the Zipperump-a-zoo by Mercer Mayer
Day Three: Kangaroo for Christmas by Jim Flora

This book was sent to me by the publisher to giveaway, but I don't think I need to tell you that this in no way educated my opinion of the publisher or the title in question. I've been bragging on these guys since the beginning of time!

Good luck everyone!

this looks like I might fall in love with it!You are so right: NY Review does beautiful work! We have the Jenny Linsky books, and we treasure them. My son still enjoys them even though he is 10. I would love to take a look at this and will see if I can find it at the fabulous BookPeople in Austin.

This looks sweet and reminds me just a bit of the Brambly Hedge mice books.

Palmer Brown's Silver Nutmeg and Beyond the Pawpaw Trees are pure magic. Never read this one, but mice are a favorite subject of my 3year old daughter and we'd love to add this to our library.

I subscribe to the NYRB, but rather shamefully, I haven't ever handled, seen, or owned any of their reprinted books!
