Shiny Brite

Hey all. Never made it to the computer today, as I've been working on a super secret (but not really) project with a super awesome (really) Internet person of interest... Something really fun that I'll reveal to you guys in due time. That said, in lieu of a formal review, please step on over to Shiny Brite (a blog by two awesome Brooklyn mommas and their awesome kids) and check out an interview with me about, ummmmm, guess.

  1. I read your interview at the other website and I thought it was great!! Could you please share with us some of the audiobooks you would recommend for a 4 year old?

  2. My son started listening to audio books in earnest at 4 with EB White... Charlotte's Web, Trumpet of the Swan, Stewart Little, the onto Roald Dahl... Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, BFG, Matilda... he loved the My Father's Dragon series which comes all three on one audio... also The Little Prince... and by 4 and a half if was onto harry potter. as an only child, audio books really have become his best friends. he'll be six in may and all we need in our house right now for fun are legos and percy jackson on audio. with longer books like harry potter or percy jackson, my husband reads them to him at night, and during the day we listen to the books or parts of books that my husband has already read. if you are looking for something shorter to start out with... there is a great collection of William Steig's picture books on one CD read by Stanley Tucci and Meryl Streep... also more modern authors like Kevin Henkes, his mouse books are all on one... there is an all-in-one Maurice Sendak too, as well as Shel Silverstein and Dr. Suess read by a whole slew of famous comic actors... a Beatric Potter collection, Winnie the Pooh, the list goes on and on. Just head to the library and check out the children's audiobook section. You'll be surprised what you find in there.

  4. @B.Streetman: Thank you so much for your list of audiobooks! I was thrilled to hear back from you. I became an ardent fan of vintage books ever since I stumbled upon your website couple of years ago. We have quite a collection in our house and my daughter LOVES them so much! I wouldn't have found those books without your blog.

You have great recommendations here, I am really excited to get my daughter started on these. She is also an only-child and loves books. I am sure these exciting stories will keep her company while I do my chores :) I did check out a few of these titles today, Thanks!
