Richard Scarry's Best Christmas Book Ever!

Richard Scarry's Best Christmas Book Ever!
Richard Scarry ~ Random House, 1981

Really, is there anything better than a Busytown Christmas?

Busytown is getting ready for Christmas. The fire fighters are stringing lights on the buildings. The stores are crowded with shoppers. Everyone is busy. Look!

One of his later books but still told in that sweet Scarry short story-style, thankfully the Barnes & Noble Sterling imprint saved it from oblivion this year, as original copies like this one were getting a bit pricey. My favorite story is the one of the "Bad Twins" who get "extra sooty" sacks of coal on Christmas morning. I wouldn't be lying if I said I hadn't used that one as a moral-compass reminder more than once this season. (Insert sinister laugh here.)

I don't know that I would call it the "best" Christmas book ever, though. Nothing beats Scarry's Rudolph!

  1. Scarry was not only one of the true greats in children's book publishing, but he also was able to read the future!

He named his book Best Christmas Book ever - with good reason!

    Thanks for the great reminder.

  2. So much to love in Busytown. I have always loved his unusual cars (pencil, sausage, apple etc).

Thanks for reminding me, I think I might pop out and pick it up for the children!
