Great Monday Give: Gus Was A Friendly Ghost

A few things.... Getting ready for Halloween around these parts. The Fawkes costume is almost finished, but I'm still waffling on a head piece. Tried out the hair dye this weekend and WAY too messy for a five-year-old to sport at school. UGH!

To get you guys in the mood, I'm giving away a classic hardcover book from the Gus the Ghost series by Jane Thayer with illustrations by Seymour Fleishman... Gus the Friendly Ghost in great, vintage condition. A funny little story about Gus and his unlikely friendship with a mouse. There's a great little bio on the Purple House Press site on Ms. Thayer -- or rather the woman who created her as a pen name -- so be sure and check it out.

Comment on this post before 11:59 PM on Sunday night, October 10 to be entered to win. A winner will be selected willy nilly and announced the next morning.

As for last week's give, that copy of Boy by Roald Dahl goes to Hanna. Congrats and send me your info to webe(at)soon(dot)com. Also, be reminded that when I randomly select a winner, I randomly do so by closing my eyes and jiggling my house around blindly. As such, I do not hunt said winners down. You are in charge of your own destiny, so be sure and check back every week for a winner.

Also, also...

READERS: If anyone will be creating a costume involving classic, storybook characters this Halloween, be sure and e-mail me a picture, I'd love to post!

PUBLISHERS AND AUTHORS: If any of you have classic reprints (meaning a book with an original pub date of 20+ years) coming out between now and Christmas, please let me know. I am planning a reprint roundup around Thanksgiving for all my readers who love vintage books but want to buy new as gifts.

Have a great one!

  19. Oh I would love the chance to win this book! My 9 year old son has a huge obsession with Halloween books, and in fact won't read a book unless it has something to do with Halloween. I would very much appreciate the opportunity to win this one! Thank you for considering me.

  21. Thank you so much! I am so excited to win this for two reasons. Great book for Halloween, which my youngest loves, and it brings back great memories of reading it as a child. Thanks for the wonderful book giveaways and for showing such wonderful books. I have such fun finding them to read to my kids.
