Francis Scott Key ~ pictures by Peter SpierDoubleday, 1973
Sending out a little national anthem love to my fellow Americans this fine and balmy Independence Day eve. (We still love you UK!) Have a great one everybody...
O! say can you see by the dawn's early lightWhat so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
O! say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

When I looked at my copy of this book earlier- I hate to gasp a little at the Twin Towers in the one frame....
Superb illustrations!
