Great Monday Give: Whistle for Willie

Monday again. Those of you who read my other blog know that I am in Virginia taking care of my mom in the hospital. That said, you'll have the unique pleasure this week of watching me raid my mom's book collection. Starting with her original, childhood copy of Miss Sniff the Fuzzy Cat. (Yes, I packed my scanner... gotta do something in between rubbing my mom's back and watching CNN.) Stay tuned.

In the meantime, I want to announce the next Great Monday Give... A used but still great paperback copy of Whistle for Willie by Keats is up for grabs. Just comment on this post before midnight, Sunday ~ July 14, and you'll be entered to win.

The winner of last week's Give ~ the ever awesome Lion~ is Heather Keele who passed on these awesome words of awesome...

I think the main reason I love your blog so much is because it totally reminds me of going to the school library as a kid. I was an insatiable reader and I would pick random books from the shelves, ones that probably hadn't been looked at for years (back when you could see the last stamp date on the card in the back). There's actually been a couple of posts that I've looked at with books I'd forgotten about until now (like "I was kissed by a seal"). And the best part is that I'm also finding new books for my son.

The best part is that you guys actually have fun reading this blog!!! Thanks for helping to keep me afloat this week. Kids' books can make even the crappiest day seem otay. Bye for now.

I recently found your blog and I am so excited! My children and I love books and loved to read together. I am always looking for ways to find different books and encourage the love for reading that my mother instilled in me. Thank you!

I love how the books you have chosen so much of the time are simple tales that are nostalgic and still timeless. they make me want to go back to the library again and again to see if i can find some of the ones i used to read over and over. sigh... thank you.

What kind of scanner do you use, anyway? Your pix are great, and I need a new one...if yours is easily portable, I'm in.

Pardon my techie-nerdiness, ma cherie!

I check your blog DAILY because I can't wait to see what you post. My wish list on my book blog is growing and I have a "date" to visit a $1 book store this week. I can't wait!

I am leaving a comment but typing with my left index finger - I have carpel tunnel syndrome from reading every post from your blog last week! I just discovered your blog and think that I have about 75% of the books that you have posted on- many collected even before my own book-loving kids were born. My personal favorites include kay thompson, tasha tudor, lois lenski, old richard scarry, maude hart lovelace (not really a picture book but where would I be without betsy), marguerite de angeli, esther averill and joan walsh anglund. I love your blog - almost as much fun as a used book sale!

I love popping in here to discover what little treasure you are sharing with us each day. I can't decide if i am more excited when it is a book I am familiar with or the true delights in discovering a book I never realized existed. Both give me such delight to share with my daughter!

I found your through Design Mom and I truly have to say that you are BY FAR the best thing that has ever been featured on her blog!

Love this book and would so like to have a copy for my little girl. Your blog is wonderful -- I am a devoted peruser. (p.s. sorry if I am posting twice; the first time I tried it didn't seem to go through)

This book is on my list of books to buy for baby. I'd love to win a copy. But if I'm not the lucky one, I'm sure I'll track it down! More importantly though I hope your mom's condition improves - hang in there!

This is such a precious book. I adore Ezra Jack Keats and don't have this one yet. We NEED this copy!

Oh, and I can't wait to see photos of Virginia!
